Pearl Fractional

Pearl Fractional is an advanced medical laser designed to resurface and rejuvenate the skin by improving imperfections due to ageing, scarring and sun damage. The Pearl Fractional Laser converts light energy to heat energy, causing microchannels to be partially ablated from the skin.

This removes channels of the skin causing immediate tightening and also causing the ablated area to have to regrow new, smooth, renewed skin tissue. Pearl Fractional offers the best safety, patient experience and recovery time. Patients experience a smoother, younger, brighter complexion overall.

During the procedure, the laser uses light, converted to heat, to create tiny holes deep in the skin tissue. The process removes sun-damaged tissue and stimulates the growth of healthy, new skin full of fresh collagen, which will continue to mature and tighten over the following 90 days, meaning the skin improves month by month over a 3-4 month period. This plumps the skin from below, repairing photodamage and other skin imperfections.

Fractional therapy describes a treatment that affects only a fraction or a small percentage of the skin. With Pearl Fractional, laser pulses treat damaged cells deep in the skin. This fractional treatment selectively removes columns of tissue, leaving the surrounding skin intact. This treatment shortens healing time and stimulates the body’s natural process for creating new skin and collagen, plumping the skin from below. Tiny holes (the size of a pore) ensure maximum results with minimal risk and downtime.

• Single treatment results are possible because our large 300 micron spot size ablates enough tissue in one pass. However, for severely damaged skin, multiple passes can be performed within the same treatment, and up to three treatments spaced over the course of 12 – 18 months may be required.
• Wound healing causes increased fibroblast activity and long-term collagen deposition. Improvement is realized over a three to six-month period.
• A recent comparative study to other fractional devices demonstrated that Pearl Fractional was a more comfortable patient experience; furthermore, the treatment is possible with only topical anaesthetics and/or local nerve blocks.

Most patients will see significant improvement after just one treatment. In cases where there is severe scarring or sun damage, more treatments may be necessary.

Patients with light-to-medium skin tones and skin imperfections due to aging, post acne scarring and sun damage will benefit from a Pearl Fractional treatment.

Pearl Fractional is used to treat targeted areas where the signs of ageing may first be noticed, such as the delicate periorbital area (around the eyes), perioral (around the mouth), forehead, upper cheeks (acne scarring), nasolabial folds and Marionette lines. These areas often show the first signs of ageing and can be the most challenging to treat. For this reason, we zone in on these treatment areas by targeting them with Pearl Fractional, after which we do a second treatment (Pearl Laser) over the top of the entire face, covering the areas that have just been targeted with Pearl Fractional for an even, full-face rejuvenation. When these two modalities are combined in this way, the treatment is known as “Pearl Fusion”.

After treatment, the skin looks sunburnt and red and swollen. Pin spot bleeding and oozing is also common post-procedure effect. Discomfort is reported after treatment and is easily managed with the correct aftercare. Most patients take a few days off work. During post-care, patients apply an occlusive ointment to the skin for four to five days. Specific make-up can be used within 48 hours afterwards if desired. After the treatment, there must be little or no sun exposure for up to 6 months. (We prefer to do these advanced treatments during winter).

Pearl Fractional should only be combined with Pearl Laser within the same session (Pearl Fusion). Because the treatment is an advanced Laser resurfacing, combining anything else within the same treatment is not recommended unless one incorporates add-on serums which may assist in faster healing and PIH prevention, such as Growth Factors and TA Serum.
