Are Dermapen microneedling treatments available at all Skin Renewal branches?

Dermapen treatments are available in Gauteng at the Morningside, Parkhurst, Rosebank, Bedfordview, Fourways, West Rand, Irene, Lynnwood and Brooklyn clinics, as well as in the Western Cape at Cape Quarter, Claremont, Constantia, Century City, Stellenbosch, Paarl and Willowbridge clinics, and Kwa-Zulu Natal at the Ballito, Durban and Umhlanga clinics.

How does Dermapen™ Skin needling work?

Skin needling procedures are performed in a safe and precise manner with the use of the sterile Dermapen needle cartridge (single use, disposable needles for sterility and patient safety). The procedure itself is normally completed within 15-30minutes for the entire face and neck and up to 60 minutes for the body depending on the size of the problem area. The skin is appropriately prepared prior to performing the actual needling portion, by cleaning and numbing the treatment area.

This is a great treatment for stretch marks, scars, wrinkles and sagging/crepey skin.

During the treatment, the practitioner gently moves the Dermapen over the client's skin to create minuscule sub-cutaneous channels. This is perceived by the body as a "mini wound" which stimulates the release of growth factors that trigger the production of collagen and elastin, which is all part of the healing process. This new fresh collagen remodels over time and thus one can expect moderate skin tightening of the treated area down the line. Sagging skin, stretch marks, enlarged pores, rough texture, lines, wrinkles and acne scars are all improved upon.

How long does the new collagen last?

The process of Dermapen micro-needling skin remodeling can go on for months after each Dermapen treatment and the results are accumulative. Initial results can be seen within 10 days. (The best results of one single treatment can be seen up to 3 months later and the collagen is continually growing and maturing in the skin over a 90 day period).

When should one start Dermapen™ Skin Needling for anti-ageing?

The good news is that the latest treatments such as Dermapen Skin Needling are more effective than ever and treatments should be started sooner when the skin has a much greater ability to rejuvenate. If wrinkles are left and they become ingrained and scar-like they are much more difficult to treat. It is also a great idea to start treatments to prevent the dreaded sagging that takes place with ageing around the brow, jawline, and neck.

What are the typical areas that are treated?

Dermapen Skin Needling is a novel way to treat:

At Skin Renewal, the Dermapen is used on more difficult problems such as acne scarring and deep, ingrained wrinkles around the mouth, enlarged pores, and surgical scars. The only type of scars that the Dermapen would not have a positive result on is keloidal scar tissue. Dermapen Skin Needling cannot be performed on any active inflammatory condition.

What to expect After the Dermapen microneedling procedure?

There is minimal downtime after this treatment as you may experience facial redness for 12-48 hours after the procedure. Most people are able to return to normal daily activities immediately after the treatment with no problems. The skin may just appear to be pink as if mildly “sun burnt”. Breathable make-up may be applied after the treatment if necessary.

For men who have acne scarring, these treatments are aimed at breaking down the scar tissue and causing the skin to regenerate and heal normally. In this way, scars can be significantly improved, resulting in much smoother, youthful-looking skin.

Can this be combined with other procedures?

Dermapen Skin Needling can be combined at a later stage with other non-invasive procedures such as Laser Genesis, Injectables, Dermal Fillers, superficial peels, Pearl™, IPL, Transdermal Mesotherapy, and other non-ablative laser procedures. These other procedures usually address different problems of ageing such as dull complexion, pigmentation, sagging of jowls, forehead, and flabby necks. Combined procedures usually give superior results.

Can all skin types be treated?

Dermapen can be safely performed on all skin colours and types.
