The eye area is one of the first places we'll notice the signs of ageing. These include crow's feet, excess skin, and dark circles. You might also experience drooping eyelids and prominent under-eye bags.
Traditionally the eye area has been very difficult to treat non-surgically. However, we now have novel treatments such as carboxytherapy and mesotherapy. This means virtually any patient in their thirties or above can be a candidate for a little rejuvenation.
With the use of mesotherapy injections, one is able to get rid of excess fat in the under-eye area. These contain "fat dissolvers" such as chondotrofin or Ceccarelli fat lipolysis. They're delivered directly to the fat bag via micro-injections. Aside from dissolving the fat cells' walls, they improve the area's circulation.
To achieve the desired effect, most patients will require 4 to 8 sessions spaced 2 weeks apart. Mild swelling can be expected for 24 hours.
Carboxytherapy is a no downtime, minimally invasive procedure. It involves insufflating the skin with carbon dioxide. This increases the flow of oxygenated blood to the area. When applied to the under-eye area, it can improve wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and vascular pooling. It can also minimize the appearance of under-eye bags caused by fatty prolapse. (This is when the fat pads slip downwards).
Very often, a droopy brow or forehead is the cause of a hooded eye. Carboxytherapy may improve this too, raising the eyelid by 1 to 3 millimeters.
Usually, 4 to 6 treatments are required to see results that appear to be cumulative. You can maintain the look with touch-ups that can be done 6 to 9 months later.
A chemical brow lift using injectable wrinkle reducers can also improve a hooded appearance.
The Pearl Fractional and Pearl Fusion devices are ablative fractional lasers. They can improve crow's feet and elasticity. This is because they can increase the collagen content of the upper and lower eye area. You can expect about 3 to 5 days of downtime involving redness and swelling. Only 1 to 2 treatments may be needed to get results.
Dermapen is a great way to rejuvenate the eye area. A series of 4 treatments done 6 weeks apart can encourage collagen synthesis. This, in turn, improves the look of crow's feet, under-eye bags and dark circles.
While eye rejuvenation encompasses various treatments to correct concerns such as crow's feet, undereye bags, dark under-eye circles, and thinning skin around the eyes, the more recent trend is to use those same correction techniques and treatments to reshape the eye area.
Some of the most commonly requested eye reshaping treatments include:
- The Almond or Oval Eye (Also known as the upturned eye)
- The Fox Eye
- The Cat Eye
