SAMA Peel

The SAMA (SALICYLIC + MANDELIC) Peel is a low pH combination peel, containing 22% Mandelic Acid and 20% Salicylic Acid. This combination formulation was originally designed to treat acne in skin type 5 and 6 patients.

The unique combination has however proven to make the peel a fantastic “all-rounder” as the acids in these concentrations are excellent for acne, PIH, pigmentation, sun damage, inflammation, fine lines and wrinkles as well as anti-ageing.

frequently asked
questions

Is the SAMA (Salicylic and Mandelic)Peel available at all Skin Renewal clinics?
Who would benefit from having the SD SAMA Peel?

The SD SAMA Peel treatment would benefit anyone suffering from:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sunspots
  • Poor hydration
  • Slow, sluggish skin cell turn over (poor natural exfoliation)
  • Superficial pigmentation
  • Dull, dry, tired skin
  • Congestion
  • Oiliness
  • Breakouts
  • Acne
How many treatments are needed?

Depending on the severity of the damage on the skin, a patient may require anything from 6 to 8 treatments to start off with (1 treatments every 14-28 days). Thereafter, the skin needs to be re-assessed and if needed a second course of treatments prescribed. Once the best possible results are achieved, it is necessary to be on a maintenance plan to maintain the results and to ensure that the skin remains in a great condition.

What can I expect after having this peel?

During the procedure itself, the peel may feel quite active and warm (some patients describe the sensation as a mild sting). In some cases, mild frosting (or crystallisation known as “pseudo-frosting” may be seen). Because of the slow penetrating nature of mandelic acid (as opposed to other alpha hydroxy acids), the peel feels much more tolerable and the peeling depth is more easily controlled.

Immediately after the peel, the skin may appear quite pink and in most cases, the skin may feel somewhat tight and “itchy”. The after effects dissipate quite quickly.

Within about 3 days, you may start to flake for about 2-4 days (in most cases there can be visible flaking with this peel. In rare cases where patients have been having combination treatments for some time, the skin may not visibly peel). This peel may be repeated every 2-4 weeks for optimum results.

Is the SAMA Peel safe for all skin types?

All skin types can benefit from this peel. It is an excellent treatment for acne, congestion, oiliness, pigmentation, general skin rejuvenation and anti-ageing.

Consultation with Dr Louise at Brooklyn branch was so wonderful and informative, she makes sure you understand and discusses the best treatments to suite your budget. I had my first session with skin therapist Rochelle and I must say she is very sweet, gentle and loving. I'm already seeing a difference on my skin after just 1 session and home products. I cannot wait for my 2nd session.

Riekardt is a skin wizard! My partner and I both had an appointment with him - he changed our skin routine forever. At the end of my appointment he said that it was the end of my suffering - I thought it sounded a bit dramatically optimistic but he was right! He’s so knowledgeable, attentive and caring, his hands are magic, and he genuinely is just so invested in everyone’s skincare journey and told us to update him and send him pictures. He gets the struggle and is a true, passionate skincare expert. We’d recommend him to anyone!
