Ark Animal Centre

In 2016, our charity drive proudly supported Ark Animal Centre, a non-profit organisation based in Chartwell, near Fourways, Gauteng. Ark is a rehabilitation and re-homing shelter with a strict no-suffer policy, ensuring that every animal in their care is treated with dignity and compassion.

While they specialise in puppies, Ark also rescues adult dogs from across Gauteng and finds them loving homes countrywide. Incredibly, the centre homed 100 dogs in their first 100 days, a first in South African animal welfare.

Their mission goes beyond rescue and re-homing: Ark works tirelessly to change attitudes towards animals in South Africa through education, awareness, and advocacy for animal welfare and rights.

Adoption at Ark Animal Centre

Ark’s adoption process is personal, interactive, and rooted in building lifelong bonds:

  • Potential adopters are encouraged to visit the shelter, spend time with the puppies, and connect with the one that captures their heart.
  • After completing an application and reference checks, adopters sign a formal contract.
  • For an adoption fee of R1,000, Ark provides two inoculations, deworming, rabies vaccination, and sterilisation at 6 months.

Activities on the Day

As part of our charity drive, a much-needed Isolation Unit—complete with cages, plumbing, and electrical fittings—was constructed at Ark. Special thanks to Bri-Dev Projects for donating materials and labour, and to Prodec Paints for sponsoring paint. Our Skin Renewal team rolled up their sleeves to paint and complete the unit.

The day also featured a lively Charity Fun Day, attended by over 80 people (and plenty of furry friends!). The event included:

  • Dog product and craft stalls
  • Bathing and dipping services
  • Delicious food stalls
  • A jumping castle and face painting for kids

It was a day filled with joy, community spirit, and new “furr-ends.”

Skin Renewal Teams in Action

Our staff enthusiastically participated, each group playing a special role:

  • Registration Team – Welcoming and guiding visitors.
  • Dog Adoption Team – Each member cared for a dog for the day, feeding, bathing, brushing, playing, and walking them.
  • Food Team – Sold boerewors rolls, raising R2,500.
  • Dog Wash Team – Washed and dipped dogs for donations, assisted by Hot Dogs Grooming Salon, which sponsored a groomer and vehicle.
  • Competitions Team – Ran fun doggy competitions, the lucky draw, and an agility/obstacle course.
  • Donation Team – Organised and distributed generous contributions.
  • Painting Team – Completed finishing touches to the Isolation Unit.

Fundraising Success

In addition to the event, our in-branch fundraising efforts were a resounding success:

  • Homemade dog treats baked with love by our Head Office team.
  • Back massages performed by our therapists for R100 donations.
  • Collection tins and boxes are available at all Gauteng branches, where clients and staff have contributed generously.

Together, these initiatives raised an incredible R21,856.65 for Ark Animal Centre, along with every single item on their wish list—and more!

Heartfelt Thanks

This project would not have been possible without the generosity of our partners:
