Christine Revell Children's Home with Skin Renewal

In 2014, the Skin Renewal Cape Town team proudly led the Cape Region’s Corporate Social Initiative by partnering with the Christine Revell Children’s Home in Athlone, Cape Town.

This non-profit organisation provides full-time care for up to 49 babies and children from birth to five years old, many of whom are neglected, abandoned, abused, or orphaned. Children are placed at the Home through the children’s courts on referral from social workers, and every child is welcomed regardless of HIV status, race, or gender.

The Home strives to create a warm, loving environment with the ultimate aim of reuniting children with their families whenever possible. Where reunification is not an option, children may be placed into foster care or, following due legal process, adopted by suitable families.

Making a Lasting Difference

The Skin Renewal team rallied together to improve the home’s facilities, brighten its spaces, and bring joy to the children. Teams focused on different areas of need:

Cooking Team: Prepared a wholesome breakfast for staff, as well as lunch, snacks, and dinner for the children, including a comforting meal of cottage pie and butternut squash.
Cleaning Team: Deep-cleaned general areas, repacked cupboards, and refreshed bathrooms and play areas.
Gardening Team: Created a new vegetable patch, replanted the back garden with colourful plants and flowers, and trimmed overgrown grass with a donated weed eater.
Children’s Entertainment Team: Set up jumping castles, face painting, cookie decorating, and educational games for a fun-filled afternoon.
Painting Team: Repainted jungle gyms and fences, leaving behind additional paint for future touch-ups.

Additional Donations and Upgrades

Generous sponsors and suppliers made it possible to provide lasting improvements, including:

Lighting & Safety: Emergency and security lights installed with support from Eagle Lighting, Builders Warehouse, Lamelle Laboratories, and Voltec Electrical.
Repairs & Renovations: Contracting teams repainted bathrooms, replaced countertops, and sealed waterlogged areas to extend durability.
Supplies: A month’s worth of quality cleaning products from Sparkle Products.
Essential Items: Dis-Chem Willowbridge donated nappies, baby products, a car seat, and pledged ongoing support.
Comfort & Care: New toilet seats, cots with new wheels, curtains, bed sheets, and colourful towels.
Gardening Support: Tools, soil enhancers, and a hose from Ferndale Nurseries to sustain the vegetable garden.
Clothing & Toys: Donations of clothing, shoes, and toys for all ages.
Everyday Needs: Colourful crockery, cutlery, and baby products, including Epimax cream sponsored by Genop Healthcare.

Building a Brighter Future

Through teamwork, donations, and dedication, the Skin Renewal family helped improve both the facilities and the daily lives of the children and staff at Christine Revell Children’s Home. The project not only met immediate needs but also created a lasting impact, ensuring the Home can continue to provide safety, comfort, and hope to the children who depend on it.
