Rape Crisis Centre

Supporting the Rape Crisis Centre at Karl Bremer Hospital

In 2013, the Western Cape Skin Renewal branches chose to dedicate their Corporate Social Initiative to the Rape Crisis Centre at Karl Bremer Hospital in Bellville.

When the project began, the Centre was in urgent need of care. Its brightly painted purple, pink, and orange walls created an unsettling environment for survivors of trauma. To create a sense of calm and safety, our staff repainted the Centre in a soft, welcoming pastel green.

Creating a Safe and Supportive Space

To raise funds, all Skin Renewal therapists offered charity fundraising massages, and with the proceeds, we were able to:

  • Repaint the entire Centre.
  • Install wall-mounted fans in six rooms.
  • Add extractor fans in the showers to create a more comfortable, hygienic environment.

Through the generosity of our partners, even more improvements were made:

  • NuAngle (SkinMedica suppliers) and Lamelle Laboratories funded the construction of cupboards and toy boxes for the Children’s Playroom, as well as a large wardrobe to store donated clothing for survivors.
  • One hundred high-quality towels were purchased to provide comfort and dignity for survivors using the showers.
  • Logica Beauty Supplies and Genop Healthcare donated much-needed toiletries.
  • A Cape Town support manager hosted a dance marathon, rallying the local community to collect boxes of toiletries and essentials, which were made into care packages for survivors.
  • Sign Force designed and installed new permanent signage to replace the old printed and laminated signage.

Ongoing Commitment

As a final contribution, Skin Renewal committed to training five volunteers through a three-month counselling course, equipping them with the skills to provide compassionate, informed support to survivors of sexual violence.

A Shared Success

The transformation of the Rape Crisis Centre has given staff a renewed working environment and survivors a more welcoming, supportive space. We are deeply grateful to all our staff, suppliers, and clients who contributed their time, funds, and resources to this initiative.

Together, we have shown how small acts of kindness can create meaningful change — and we hope this inspires others to support the Centre in the future.
