frequently asked
questions

Is the Glycolic Peel available at all Skin Renewal branches?
Who would benefit from having the 70% Glycolic Peel?

This peel has been specifically designed and the acids put in combination to focus on all the main signs of ageing. So this treatment would benefit anyone suffering from:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Sun spots
  • Poor hydration
  • Slow, sluggish skin cell turn over (poor natural exfoliation)
  • Superficial pigmentation
  • Dull, dry, tired skin
How many treatments are needed?

Depending on the severity of the damage on the skin, a patient may require anything from 6 to 8 treatments to start off with (1 treatments every 21 days). Thereafter, the skin needs to be re-assessed and if needed a second course of treatments prescribed.

Once the best possible results are achieved, it is necessary to be on a maintenance plan to maintain the results and to ensure that the skin condition does not deteriorate.

What can I expect after having this peel?

During the procedure itself, the peel may feel quite active and “tingly” (some patients describe the sensation as a mild sting while the peel is active). In some cases, mild frosting (or crystallization known as “pseudo-frosting” may be seen).

Immediately after the peel, the skin may appear quite pink and in most cases, the skin may feel somewhat tight and “itchy”.

Within about 3 days, you may start to flake for about 2-4 days (in most cases there can be visible flaking with this peel. In rare cases where patients have been having combination treatments for some time, the skin may not visibly peel). This peel may be repeated every three weeks for optimum results.

Is the SD 70% Glycolic Peel safe for all skin types?

All skin types can benefit from this peel, but contact time will differ slightly on skin types 5 and 6, due to the sensitive and reactive nature of these skin types. This peel is excellent for general skin rejuvenation and anti-ageing.
